BREEDING BUDGIES GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

BREEDING BUDGIES GENERAL - SUITABILITY

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES:

Although budgie breeding is easy if the environment is right, not everyone is

suitable. You must be able-bodied and physically fit.

A practical nature would be an advantage.

DON'T TAKE UP THE HOBBY if you're ham-fisted or clumsy - you'll be catching

and handling delicate creatures regularly.

MENTAL ATTRIBUTES:

DON'T TAKE UP THE HOBBY IF YOU SUFFER FROM A MENTAL ILLNESS.

You need to be mentally stable, well balanced and strong. You'll be coping

with emotionally demanding situations

such as bullying, sickness and death regularly.

DON'T TAKE UP THE HOBBY IF YOU'RE LONELY (WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS

BEING ALONE) - A FLOCK OF BIRDS DON'T

MAKE GOOD PETS - THEY BOND TO EACH OTHER, NOT HUMANS.

YOUR PERSONAL SITUATION:

This hobby is ideally suited to a person living alone with plenty of

spare time who is looking for other avenues to his or her life.

However, other situations will work equally well with certain provisos.

PERSON WITH PARTNER: ONE WORKING - that's fine.

PERSON WITH PARTNER: BOTH WORKING - NO! NO! NO!

Breeding and managing a flock of WILD! budgies is a FULL TIME JOB.

Yes - that's what the offspring of your original stock will be.

TOTALLY WILD with little experience of humans or how

to behave.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR INDOOR BREEDING

BUDGIES / PARAKEETS AND CHILDREN:

THIS is more difficult! Some badly brought up children will chase a feeding

pigeon on a street. This may just be a natural test of his or her place in the

scheme of things or it could indicate a tendency to bullying.

However, To understand another species from an early age can be very

beneficial, especially for an only child. Only YOU can make the decision.

Looking after a flock of birds is VERY demanding and will take up a lot of your

time.

BUDGIES / PARAKEETS and a domestic pet:

NO - There will be flightless birds, maybe handicapped birds walking and

playing on the floor. No matter how tame and placid your pet may seem,

one day it's natural instincts will take over and there will be a tragedy.
